- What is powder coating and how is it
done?
Powder coating is a process where the paint, in
powder form, is electro statically applied, then it is baked at a
temperature of 385 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit until the product is cured.
The finished application has the same
visible coating as wet paint, but is more durable.
- What types of materials can be powder
coated?
Anything that is metal and that can conduct electricity.
- How tough is the coating?
The coating is very durable, and is commonly used in industrial
applications, because as opposed to wet paint, powder does not flake off
when dinged. This quality also makes it desirable for non-industrial
applications such as trailer fenders, wheels, motorcycle frames, and
much more!
- What type of surface preparation is
required, and do you provide a complete preparation?
If the material has any rust, old paint, or chrome, it must be
removed by sanding or sandblasting. If there is any oil or grease, it
must be removed through an acidic wash. We can provide sandblasting
services, and we wash all items in the acidic wash to make sure the item
is free of impurities before going through the paint application
process.
- What colors are available?
There are literally hundreds
of colors available. We keep at least 100 colors in stock at all
times.
- What kind of finish quality can be
expected?
The finish will be dependant on the materials raw finish.
If the material is perfectly smooth, the finish will be. If the
material has a rough texture, the finish will, too.
The paint variations are available in smooth or rough texture.
- How large of pieces can you powder
coat?
Our current capacity allows items as large as 3' x 5' x 20' long.
We will soon have a batch oven with the capability of curing parts 10' x
10' x 24' long.
